FAIRFIELD (FOX19) -- Central Elementary School has been operating without heat since late Tuesday because of a problem with a boiler, Fairfield City Schools says.
The school, that opened in 1929, is the district's oldest school.
Spokeswoman Gina Gentry-Fletcher said Central Elementary is one of two schools that would be demolished and rebuilt if voters approve a bond issue in May. The bond issued failed in last month's general election by 31 votes. The district is waiting the results of a recount at the Butler County Board of Elections.
"Our maintenance staff is working overtime to correct the problem to ensure that our students and staff are comfortable. We should know more this afternoon," she said. "We will communicate updates on this situation with parents as information becomes available."
