Dedication ceremony for Fairfield's newest park

FAIRFIELD, OH (FOX19) - The city of Fairfield is set to debut their newest park on Saturday, October 27.

The dedication program and ribbon cutting ceremony for Huffman Park will start at 11 a.m. under a large tent. Activities will include visits with the Raptor Center Hueston Woods, the Butler County Bee Keepers Association along with a children’s craft and information about the Huffman Park Community Gardens courtesy of the Four Seasons Garden Club.

This project was made possible by the Anna and Harold Huffman Foundation’s donation of the 22 acre farm and over $900,000 to develop the southern portion of the property into a discovery area for children of all ages.

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) – The Voice of America MetroPark in West Chester at 7850 VOA Park Drive is hosting free concerts on the last Sunday of each month from June to October.  Each show will run from 5-7 p.m.

The lineup:

  • June 24: The Mistics – Motown
  • July 29 September 30 John Kogge & the Lonesome Strangers - Folk-a-billy rock
  • August 26 Lisa Bialis - Blues & Roots
  • September 30 Stormy Weather Quintet - Jazz
  • October 28 John Ford - Acoustic Roots

Snacks, soda and adult beverages are available at all concerts.  In the event of rain, the concerts will be held in the Lodge

Hamilton County park passes now available in Butler County

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) – MetroParks in Butler County and the Hamilton County Park District have noticed that a number of people in one county visit parks in the other.

The result: for your convenience, MetroParks has partnered with HCPD and now offers the annual stickers for this great park system located just to the south. 

These stickers can be purchased for $10 at the MetroPark Administrative Offices, 2051 Timberman Road, Hamilton, OH  45013 or at the Voice of America Baitshop in West Chester.

Phase 1 of Butler Warren Road widening set to begin

BUTLER & WARREN COUNTY, OH (FOX19) - Long anticipated improvements to a heavily traveled section of Butler Warren Road are about to get under way, according to officials from the Butler and Warren County Engineer's Offices. Construction is slated to start on the first phase beginning Feb. 27 which will require closing the road between Tylersville Road and Liberty Way / Mason Road for a period of about four months.

The Butler Warren Road improvement will be accomplished in four phases. Only the first phase will involve an extended road closure. After that, the remainder of the work will be performed under traffic with only a few short closures anticipated during Phase 3.

PHASE 1 -- Starting February 27, 2012, Butler Warren Road will be closed and rebuilt from 450 feet north of Tylersville Road to just south of Liberty Way / Mason Road.

Parks District says: hang on to your hang tags

HAMILTON (FOX19) - If you have a Metroparks of Butler County motor vehicle hang tag from 2011, hang onto it.

The park district says you should get a free orange 2012 sticker to update your motor vehicle permit. With proof of residence, you can get your sticker at convenient partner locations throughout the county including the Lane Public and Middletown Library branches, Butler County Visitor's Bureau, Fairfield Arts Center and Morgan Twp Admin office. Residents of Butler County will receive their stickers at no charge again! Non-residents can support the parks with $10/annual or $5/daily permits.  These can be purchased online at the website or by calling 513.867.5835 or at the entrance booths at Sebald, Voice of America and Rentschler Forest when staffed.

State looking for hunters to become teachers

State looking for hunters to become teachers

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) - A training academy for people interested in becoming hunter education instructors will be offered March 16 and 17 according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.

Training will be held at the Isaac Walton League of America located at 450 Beissinger Rd., Hamilton Ohio 45013. There is no cost to participate in a Hunter education instructor academy.  Those interested in attending must register by calling 1-800-WILDLIFE at least two weeks prior to the academy.

Participants must attend both days of training, be at least 18 years of age and have successfully completed a hunter education course. Ohio currently has 1,700 volunteer instructors who train thousands of hunters each year to be safe and responsible in the field.
