SPRINGDALE, OH (FOX19) - Jake Sweeney Chevrolet Sales Consultant Don Scott leads a select team of sales personnel to visit area Fire Departments to provide 1st-Responder Safety Training about the new Volt electric car.
When Chevrolet brought the Volt to market; GM, OnStar and the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) collaborated to create a training program for first responders preparing to deal with emergency situations involving electric vehicles, like the Chevrolet Volt. This training is available to any 1st-responder online at http://www.evsafetytraining.org/; but Don Scott from Jake Sweeney Chevrolet in Springdale is taking this training - and actual Volt vehicles - to area Fire Departments.
Having served as a firefighter and EMT with Monroe Fire Department in the past, Don understood the importance of seeing the vehicle up close. “It’s one thing to watch an online video presentation, but it is much better to see the safety cut-off switches and emergency disconnect areas on an actual Volt”, said Don Scott now with Jake Sweeney Chevrolet in the Internet Sales Department.
Mr. Scott has conducted this training program, which consists of a classroom presentation followed by hands-on demonstrations, and test rides in actual Volt vehicles, with several departments and agencies in the area. Don said, “The Colerain Township Fire/EMS Department was the first department, and we just finished a very well received program with Butler County Fire Chiefs Association held at Liberty Township fire Department.” He further said, “I am excited to get the chance to go to Monroe Fire Department this month for the program.” The Volt 1st-Responder Training will be given in three sessions at Monroe Fire Department on Friday January 13th, Wednesday January 18th, and Thursday January 26th.
The overall aim of the training program created by GM and the NFPA is to protect 1st-responders while dealing with emergencies involving the Volt and other electric vehicles. The Chevrolet Volt is very safe car to drive. “You know the Volt received the highest award possible from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety as a Top Safety Pick,”, said Don Scott, adding “and it is incredibly fun to drive!”
“We’re pleased to have someone like Don Scott willing and able to visit the area Fire Departments,” said Mark Dinkelaker, Sales Manager, Jake Sweeney Chevrolet. “It’s truly a public service which we’re happy to provide.”
