Deadline soon to apply for property tax break

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) - Butler County Auditor Roger Reynolds is reminding county residents that the deadline for applying for a homestead exemption on their property taxes will be Monday, June 4.  As stated in the Homestead Exemption Act, the deadline for applying is always the end of the business day of the first Monday in June.

This applies to people who own a home and have turned 65 or become disabled this year, or people in those categories who have bought a new home.

The homestead exemption provides a reduction in property taxes to any senior (65 or older during the year they apply) or disabled citizen, regardless of income. The exemption can only be used on the individual’s primary residence. The yearly savings ranges in amount from approximately $300 to $500, depending on the tax millage in each district.
