Walt’s Barbeque hosts fundraiser for little league team

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) — Walt's Barbeque is hosting a fundraiser for the West Side Little League All-Stars today and tomorrow.

A portion of the the dine-in and carryout meals between 6 PM - 9 PM will go to the little league team who is battling at the Great Lakes Regional in Indianapolis on Friday.

Hamilton will play the state champs from Kentucky, Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana and Illinois, with the winner advancing to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.

The restaurant is located at 1242 Main St., in the plaza near Marsh supermarket.

Middletown national night out

MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19)- Tonight is the 27th observance of National Night Out, and Middletown will join cities and towns across the country as neighbors take part in events to celebrate and strengthen their community.

Middletown will have free hot dogs & chips at Jacot Park, 4501 Grand Ave. from 5:00 - 9:00 PM.

National Night Out began in 1984 as a way for the National Association of Town Watch to increase participation in local anticrime efforts. People were encouraged to turn on their porch lights, lock their doors and come outside to meet with neighbors in solidarity against crime.

Oxford library sale starts today

OXFORD, OH (FOX19)- Thousands of items will be available, from books to CDs and movies at the annual used book sale.

This year's sale will take place at Talawanda Middle School at 4030 Oxford-Reily Rd.

The Friends Only Preview is set for today from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.

The sale will open to the public on Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. and will continue Saturday, July 31 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Friends memberships may be purchased or renewed at the sale, or you can pick up a brochure at the Oxford Lane Library.

Middletown Freshmen athletes "Commit to Excellence"

MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19)- Middletown Athletic Department is proud to introduce a new program for incoming freshman students. "Committing to Middie Excellence" will be a two-day event that will provide important information as the student enters high school. The program will be on Thursday and Friday from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm at Middletown High School.

During the event, guest speakers talk to the incoming freshmen about what it means to be a part of the community and about the impor-tance of what it means to represent Middletown. Part of the program includes volunteer work in the community. Representatives will be avail-able to answer questions about sports, clubs, and activities.

Mayor: Council will vote on city manager tonight

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19)- Hamilton Mayor Pat Moeller says the special Hamilton City Counil meeting is to vote on a new city manager.

Moeller says the council will vote on a replacement for Mark Brandenburger, who stepped down to become the head the city’s utilities department.

The meeting will be in Council Chambers at 345 High Street at 5:30 PM.

Butler County Fair opens Sunday

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) - The 160th Butler County Fair begins Sunday and lasts through Saturday night, July 31 and the Hamilton fairgrounds.

The classic county fair entertainment will be represented with the horse, hog and sheep barns, amusement rides and food booths, the big draw of this fair will be the popular demolition derbies.

The two demolition derbies will be held at 7 p.m. Monday night and Friday night at the grandstand.

"Thunder in the Sky" back at Hook Field

MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19)- The third annual "Thunder in the Sky" jet is coming back to Hook Field airport in Middletown.

Remote controlled turbine-powered aircraft are flown by skilled pilots which reach speeds of up to 200 MPH. Young and old alike enjoy the activities. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy.

The event will be held on July 23-25 from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. Admission is $5.00 per carload and refreshments will be available for purchase.

Spectator attendance was around 1500 people last year and organizors hope to double it this year.

Hook Field is only a 30 minute drive from downtown Cincinnati, North on 75.
