SCLC meeting on Saturday on Hamilton Police

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) - The Dayton Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference will hold a town hall meeting and news conference on Saturday to discuss complaints of racial profiling and unequal treatment against the Hamilton Police and the city and county court system. 

The meeting will be at 5 p.m. at Payne Chapel A.M.E. Church at 300 South Front Street in Hamilton. 

This event conference is being called by Bishop Richard E. Cox, Dayton Local SCLC President and National Board Member, and Keith Lander, Dayton Local SCLC Chairman, with the NAACP and other community leaders. 

They will discuss these proposals: 

  • 1. Meeting with City Hall to focus attention on a signed agreement with the city.
  • 2. City employment of African Americans and other minorities
  • 3. To encourage African Americans and other minorities to register and vote
  • 4. To consider going to a Ward System
  • 5.

Three men arrested in Hamilton vice search

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) - The Hamilton Police SWAT team, along with Hamilton Vice Detectives, served a search warrant at 621 Buckeye Street on the northeast side of the city on Friday morning.  They found some drugs and arrested three unemployed men, two who were already wanted. 

There was a small amount of heroin, crack, and money recovered from the search.  27-year-old Daryl Gaines Jr.

“Top Ten Most Wanted” suspect tracked down at hospital

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19)- Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that Sheriffs Deputies arrested 40-year-old Euvonda May Martinez Monday afternoon at Fort Hamilton Hospital where she was visiting a family member.

Martinez was listed on the Sheriff’s Office “Ten Most Wanted” poster. She had previously been arrested and charged with Felony Grand Theft. She was originally charged in Hamilton Municipal Court in January of 2011 and bound over into Common Pleas Court, but didn't show up for arraignment and a capias was issued.

The Sheriff's office says Martinez had been on the run ever since, leading to her eventual being placed on the Most Wanted list.

Sheriff's deputies had recently gotten information leading them to believe she was visiting a family member at Fort Hamilton Hospital. Deputies did surveillance at the hospital and found her.  She was taken in custody without incident.

Assistant prosecutor becomes judge Friday

 

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - A 10-year assistant prosecutor will become a judge Friday following her election to the Hamilton County Municipal Court in November.

The investiture ceremony for the Honorable Megan E. Shanahan will be at at 1:30pm in the Hamilton County Courthouse, Room 340. 

Presiding judges for the ceremony will be the Honorable Sylvia S. Hendon, Ohio First District Court of Appeals, the Honorable Patrick F. Fischer, Ohio First District Court of Appeals, and the Honorable Jon H. Sieve, Court of Common Pleas, Domestic Relations Division.

Shanahan was an assistant prosecutor in Butler and then Hamilton counties, and has also been city prosecutor for Mt. Healthy. She is a graduate of Kent State University and the U.C. College of law, and a member of St. Cecilia Church in Oakley.

Middletown man wanted  in Franklin Township Marathon robbery

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, WARREN COUNTY - The Warren County Sheriff's Office says a Middletown man is responsible for a Sunday gas station robbery.

On Sunday, January 15, 8:15 p.m., Warren County Sheriffs Deputies responded to the Marathon Gas Station located at 4501 Dixie Highway in Franklin Township on the report of an Aggravated Robbery.

Deputies say they are searching for James T. Hocz, white male, 27 of Middletown for his involvement in the offense.  Hocz' last known address is 2032 Sheffield Street in Middletown, and deputies say he was last seen fleeing the area on foot wearing a black coat, blue jeans and white tennis shoes.

As of late Monday Hocz was not in jail.  Anyone who may have information regarding this offense is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 513-352-3040 or the Warren County Sheriff's Office at 513-695-1280.

Fake Goodwill workers get into Fairfield home

FAIRFIELD, OH (FOX19) - Ohio Valley Goodwill says a pair of men posing as Goodwill workers got into a woman's house, getting away with a couple bags of clothes intended for Goodwill.  

Here's a note from Goodwill spokesperson Michael Flannery: 

ALERT: Two men pose as Goodwill employees and gain entrance to senior citizen’s home.

Ohio Valley Goodwill Store Managers from the Fairfield store (939 0020) and the Oakley store (631 6348) have received phone calls from customers reporting that two men, claiming to be Goodwill employees, are going door to door asking for donations.

Ohio Valley Goodwill DOES NOT “Pick-Up” donations or go door to door soliciting donations. If anyone comes to your house saying they are Goodwill Employees asking for donations do not let them in and call the police.

Three arrested for safecracking at Rally's; police suspect them in more

MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) -The Middletown Police have arrested two men from Franklin and one from Middletown for breaking into the Rally's restaurant at 2115 North Verity Parkway last month and breaking into the safe and taking the money. 

Justin Burnett, 24, 2011 Oneka Ave in Middletown, 42-year-old Steve Sexton of 921 Wilshire Drive in Franklin, 25-year-old Jeffery Smith of 229 Maxwell Street in Franklin have all been charged with Breaking and Entering and Safe Cracking. 

The Rally's break-in happened on December 13.  A release says "these individuals are also suspected of committing other crimes in the area. We are working with surrounding agencies to clear other thefts they are involved in and bring an end to their crime spree." 

Police are asking anyone with additional information about the suspects to call Detective Lovejoy at 513-425-1713.
