MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) – A 30-year-old Middletown man knocking on doors and claiming to be looking for a woman named Brooke probably won’t be finding her anytime soon.

On Friday morning the Middletown Division of Police received two calls, one at 08:40 and another at 10:17, that a man was knocking on doors asking for a female named Brooke or Molly. The callers said the man was acting suspicious and in one case he was knocking on the back door. One of the callers wrote down the man’s license plate number and officers found the car nearby.

The driver of the vehicle turned out to be Christopher Burkhardt of Bavarian Drive.

“When we stopped him he was still claiming to be looking for a girl he had met recently but wasn’t sure where she lived”, Lieutenant Walter Scott Reeve said. “When we arrested him we found screw drivers in his pocket, a black toboggan hat, and heroin in his cigarette pack.”

Deer comes to rescue, breaking up violent robbery attempt

OXFORD, OH (FOX19) -- A Miami University student who escaped a robbery attempt Sunday morning is giving the credit to a white-tailed deer.

The woman told police she had been at a late-night party on South Poplar Street in Oxford when she went outside for some reason, and was approached and attacked by a man who grabbed her purse.

The purse was around her shoulder and neck, and the man grabbed it, hit her in the head, told her to be quiet, and started dragging her across the lawn.

Suddenly, a deer appeared out of nowhere, and the startled attacker let go of the purse strap and ran away.

Police say the student had abrasions and contusions, but didn't need to go to the hospital.

Police are still looking for the attacker.  Oxford police have not had any similar robberies or robbery attempts, nor any similar incidents involving deer.
