WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - Barnes & Noble of West Chester is holding a book benefit drive for Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Butler County.
During the past seven years of the benefit book drive, Barnes & Noble customers have contributed more than 12,000 books for children in the Big Brothers, Big Sisters program.
As in previous years, Barnes & Noble employees have identified age-appropriate books for children in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and have them available at each check-out location at the store. Customers may select a book to donate as they pay for their purchases. Gail Allinsmith, Barnes & Noble customer relations manager, reports the stores’ employees have set a goal of collecting 3,000 books.
The books will be given to the children in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. Books will also be used to supplement the traveling libraries used at the 16 Site-Based Mentoring Programs Big Brothers Big Sisters operates throughout Butler County.
At these weekly programs the children have the opportunity to do homework and practice reading with their mentors. Many of the children in the program read below grade level expectations so it is important for their academic success to have these opportunities to improve their reading skills.
