$9.6mm awarded to provide affordable housing in Butler Co.

The Butler Metro Housing Authority (BMHA) announced on Thursday that they have received an award of over $9.6mm in federal tax credits to develop affordable housing in the City of Hamilton. The Authority plans to redevelop the now vacant Bambo Harris site by building Beacon Pointe Town Homes where public housing once stood.

The Bambo Harris public housing project began in 1942 with 141 housing units.  After 60 years of wear and tear, outdated floor plans, and building construction that did not lend itself to rehabilitation, Bambo Harris was razed early in 2006 to make way for new affordable housing.  Since that time, BMHA has been seeking a housing solution that would accomplish several goals, including bringing more mixed income housing and higher quality housing to the neighborhood.
